Lightning Protection - Early Streamer Emission (ESE) System

The Early Streamer Emission Systems (ESE) increases the protection area when compared to a standard lightning rod. The ESE lightning rod produces an upward streamer that allows it to “capture” the elctro-atmospheric discharge faster and higher. This process increases the protection radius of the lightning rod.

The Ingesco PDC-E has been designed to accumulate the additional electric charge that is produced between the clouds and earth while a storm is developing. Just before the lightning strike, this energy is released in the form of high voltage pulses that ionises the air particles around the device, generating the
upward streamer that intercepts the downward path of the lightning and “captures” the discharge over the protected building of facility to take it to ground. The Ingesco PDC-E is the most reliable lightning rod of it’s class which offers intelligent performance: The ESE system only works when there is a real risk of lightning impact, lowering the risk of unnecessary discharges.

ESE Installation

An ESE lightning protection system is made up of:

* An ESE lightning conductor and its extension Mast.
* Down conductor.
* A test point for each down conductor to enable the earth resistance verification.
* An earthing system designed to dissipate the lightning currents at the base of the down conductor.

ESE Testing

INGESC0© PDC-E has been submitted to numerous tests and has obtained the following certifications:

* Electro-technical Laboratory LABELEC certification of radius of protection and standard UNE 21.186 fulfilment.

* Intensity test certification, for overcoming the test of High Energy Wave 10/350 s made by Laboratory LABELEC (guarantees conductivity after current impulses of 100 kA).

* High performance in rain conditions certificate (insulation higher than 95%).

* Corrosion test certificate (for humidity condensation with sulphur dioxide), according the norm ENE-EN ISO 6988 (made by Laboratory LABELEC).

* Environmental test certification, according to UNE-EN 60068-2-52: saline fog test and cyclic test (sodium chloride solution), made by Laboratory LABELEC.

* Intensity test certification (conductivity after electric current of 100 kA) for lightning protection systems components, in accordance with UNE-EN 50.164-1, made by Laboratory LABELEC.

* Extreme climate conditions test certification (temperature range: -20 ºC ~ +60 ºC; relative humidity range: -10% ~ + 100%)

* BVQi product certification nº ESPMDD004531, acknowledging conformity with standard UNE 21.186 and UNE-EN 50.164-1 and tests mentioned above.
